Troubleshooting Guide: LG LRDC2603S Bottom Freezer Refrigerator Cooling Problems

The LG LRDC2603S 26 cu. ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator is designed to maintain consistent temperatures. However, if it’s not cooling properly, here are the most common causes and how to fix them:

1. Check Temperature Settings

Ensure that the temperature controls are correctly set:

  • Refrigerator: 37°F (3°C)
  • Freezer: 0°F (-18°C)

If temperatures were recently adjusted, allow 24 hours to stabilize.

2. Inspect Air Vents for Blockages

Blocked air vents can prevent cold air from circulating:

  • Ensure no food packages are blocking the vents in the refrigerator and freezer.
  • Keep space between food items to allow proper airflow.

Model-Specific Vent Location:
Top rear wall of the refrigerator and back panel of the freezer compartment.

3. Clean the Condenser Coils

Dust and debris on the condenser coils reduce cooling efficiency:

  1. Unplug the refrigerator.
  2. Locate the condenser coils (behind or underneath the appliance).
  3. Use a coil cleaning brush or vacuum to remove debris.
  4. Reconnect the power supply.

4. Verify Door Seals

A damaged or dirty door gasket can cause cool air loss:

  1. Inspect for cracks, gaps, or food residue on the gasket.
  2. Clean with warm soapy water and dry.
  3. Replace if worn out (Part Number: ADX72930402 – Door gasket for LRDC2603S).

5. Check for Frost Build-Up in the Freezer

If frost is blocking air vents:

  • Perform a manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator for several hours.
  • If frost returns, the defrost heater or defrost thermostat may need replacement.

6. Inspect the Evaporator Fan Motor

If the fan motor fails, cold air won’t circulate properly:

  • Open the freezer and listen for fan noise.
  • If the fan isn’t running, test and replace the Evaporator Fan Motor (Part Number: EAU64824401) if defective.

7. Test the Start Relay

The start relay powers the compressor. A failed relay can cause cooling loss:

  1. Unplug the fridge and access the relay (located near the compressor).
  2. Shake the relay; if it rattles, it may be defective.
  3. Replace if needed (Part Number: EBG60663230).

8. Run LG Smart Diagnosis

If you have the LG SmartThinQ® app:

  • Open the app and run Smart Diagnosis to check for error codes and potential issues.
