The ice bucket is an essential part of your LG refrigerator’s ice-making system. It’s set up to collect and store the ice that is made by the ice maker and dispenses ice when required.
Usually located in the freezer compartment of your LG refrigerator, the ice maker has sensors to tell when the ice bucket is full and when it’s empty. These sensors will prompt the icemaker to make more ice.
If the ice bucket is jammed, the ice creation process will be disrupted. The sensor can falsely indicate to the ice maker that the bucket is full, even if it isn’t. A jam can also prevent the ice from being dumped out, leading to further issues.
To figure out if the ice bucket is behind your problem, check for visible ice clumps in the ice bucket. Also, check to ensure the ice bucket is properly seated in the ice bucket assembly, and make sure that the dispenser mechanism can move freely without obstruction.
If it turns out it is jammed, follow these steps to fix it:
Your LG ice maker needs a certain level of water pressure to properly function. If the water pressure is too low, then the ice maker won’t have enough water to make the ice.
In LG fridges, the ice maker is connected to your home’s water supply and uses a water inlet valve to fill up the ice cube tray. If the pressure is too low, the valve won’t open fully to let water flow through, which can hinder or even totally stop ice production.
To fix this problem:
If none of these fixes work, you may need to replace your refrigerator’s water inlet valve. A replacement valve can be purchased online from any refrigerator parts supplier—just make sure it’s compatible with your model of LG refrigerator.
If the water line of your LG refrigerator gets an ice clog, this can severely impact its ability to create ice. This issue happens if the tube leading to the ice maker freezes solid, preventing water from getting to the ice cube tray. An iced-up water line happens when the line itself drops below freezing temperature, creating a blockage.
If an iced-up water line is your issue, you may hear a buzzing or humming sound from the ice maker as it tries to draw water. Your refrigerator water dispenser will also not be working.
To fix this issue:
All LG refrigerators with ice makers have water filters, and if the filters get blocked it can significantly impact the ice production process. The water filter removes impurities from the water, and over time it can get blocked. This is likely to happen if you live in an area where the water has a high mineral content.
If the filter is left in long enough without being changed, water flow can slow down or even stop completely. Reduced water flow to your ice maker will result in small cubes or no cubes at all. If you notice this happening, a clogged water filter may be the cause.
