9 Most Reliable Washer and Dryer Brands

Washers and dryers are big purchases, so it’s important to choose reliable brands. You don’t want to skimp on the initial cost just to spend hundreds of dollars down the line on repairs. But which brands are the most reliable? Our guide has the answers!

The following details are general thoughts based on feedback from comments on Reddit and other forums. These opinions are not specific to Fleet Appliance.

What Makes a Washer or Dryer Reliable?

When choosing a washer or dryer, make sure you consider the following factors:

Your preferences

The most important thing is that a washer or dryer suits your preferences—no matter how reliable the brand, it’s no use if it doesn’t fit your needs. Consider things like capacity, noise, and energy efficiency when choosing your appliance.

Consumer reviews

Consumer reviews are a great way to gauge the reliability of a dryer or washer brand. Look through the online reviews of models you’re considering. If you see a lot of complaints about the appliance breaking down, that’s a red flag that indicates it may not be a reliable brand.

Warranty

Reliable brands offer long warranty periods, as they know their appliances are built to last. Choose a product with a long warranty that indicates confidence in the appliance’s durability.

Most Reliable Washer & Dryer Brands

1. Bosch

Topping our list is Bosch, a German manufacturer known for its reliable, compact appliances and commitment to high-quality manufacturing. Bosch appliances are excellent for small spaces such as apartments, and are very user-friendly, with a wide selection of cycle options for both washers and dryers. They also come with low service rates.

In our opinion, the only downside to Bosch washers and dryers is the price point. But while they tend to be on the expensive side, they make up for that in longevity and reliability.

2. Miele

Another high-end German brand, Miele appliances are famous for their reliability and high performance. They’re the only major manufacturer that offers a 20-year warranty—they’re that confident that their appliances are built to last.

Miele washers and dryers also offer a wide range of cycle features, meaning they are perfect for those who value modern convenience in their appliances, such as WiFi connectivity. Like with Bosch, these washers and dryers are on the more expensive side, and they also don’t have a very big range of products on offer.

3. Whirlpool

If you’re looking for a reliable washer and dryer manufacturer that makes its products in the US, Whirlpool is the ideal option. The company has been around since 1911 and has a great track record of making quality appliances that meet the needs of modern American households. They have a massive range of appliances, which is great for catering to a variety of budgets and preferences.

While Whirlpool washers and dryers are reliable, the washers sometimes experience draining issues, so bear that in mind when making your choice.

4. Samsung

Samsung manufactures a huge range of different appliances and offers more than 30 models of washers and dryers. The appliances have low service rates and are known for their reliability as well as their innovative features and quiet operation.

Although tests show that Samsung washers and dryers are more reliable than average, some technicians advise against Samsung products because it can be hard to find replacement parts if something does go wrong.

5. LG

LG has a huge range of washers, dryers, and washer-dryer combinations. The brand is known for its great features and reasonable prices, making it a good option for someone looking for a reliable appliance that doesn’t blow the budget.

LG is particularly focused on energy efficiency, so it’s a great choice for those who are concerned about both the environment and electricity costs. It’s important to note that some repair technicians have stated that LG appliances are difficult to fix and service, so bear that in mind when making your decision.

6. GE

If you’re looking for an American brand with tons of options, plenty of smart features, and a reasonable price, you can’t go wrong with GE. They have a focus on offering a huge range of features that suit the needs of their customers, such as WiFi connectivity and customizable cycles.

Customers like the fact that GE appliances have a large capacity and are quiet and long-lasting. It’s important to recognize that although these products have good reviews, their service rates are slightly higher than other brands such as Bosch and Miele.

7. Electrolux

Consumers looking for an energy-efficient and reliable washer or dryer will love Electrolux. Although they don’t have the biggest range of washer and dryer models available, the ones they do make are known to be reliable and eco-friendly.

One thing to be aware of is that Electrolux only makes front-loading washers due to their focus on energy efficiency, so if you’ve got your heart set on a top loader this might not be the brand for you.

8. Maytag

Maytag is another well-established, super-reliable appliance brand. While their machines may not have all the fancy smart features that other brands do, they’re dependable and hard-wearing.

Maytag machines are also great value overall—they’re one of the more affordable options out there, which makes them ideal for those watching their budgets. They’re also ideal for large families, as they tend to be high-capacity and designed for heavy-duty use.

9. Speed Queen

For consumers looking for heavy-duty washers and dryers that are built to last, Speed Queen is the ideal choice. Although they’re on the expensive side, they’re known for their commercial-grade performance and huge load capacity, making them a great choice for big households.

Some consumers complain that the machines can be a little rough on clothes and that washers and dryers are bulky and unaesthetic, so this may be a better choice for those who value performance over looks!
